Born and raised in Chicago, Chundria attended Columbia College in Chicago and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Television: Production/Directing. She interned at ABC 7 News and WCIU TV stations in Chicago. Since graduating, she has produced a myriad of independent TV projects and interviewed a great number of celebrities and rising stars. Her experience as a TV Host has been an amazing journey. It's a really rewarding experience to offer a platform of exposure that people have truly been supportive of and excited about.
Chundria decided to start her own production company because she was interested in garnering more success in the business side of multi-media. She has been consistently conducting interviews for nearly 10 years. However, she was ready to be in position to own content and produce more programming for TV outside of the interviews. Oprah and Tyler Perry inspire her.
Chundria Stanback Studios is a Television and Film Production Co. that produces original programming and also offers multimedia services to individuals, small businesses and corporations.
I'm Chundria Stanback, an LA-based TV Host and owner of a TV/Film production company. I’m a few months shy of my 35th birthday and loving life right now. I’m originally from Chicago but I moved to Los Angeles 2.5 years ago to continue my career in media and change my life.
Q: How did you get your start in the TV/Entertainment business?
I attended Columbia College pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Television with a concentration Production/Directing. Columbia is an amazing institution because it’s teaches students so much about the business. All of its Television students take core classes to learn everything including writing, producing, production, editing and graphics. These skill sets are developed in-studio and on location. So when I graduated, I was equipped to take my career in any direction. I was so passionate about writing and directing while in school, but also became interested in hosting on-air after graduation.
Q: Being a female entrepreneur, do you find that being in the entertainment can be somewhat difficult?
I don’t find that being in entertainment is difficult if you create your own path. It seems women in the industry have more to prove in the male-dominated industry. However, women have made great strides in Entertainment. I want to see more women lead in the business. Some may argue that women get fewer opportunities or less pay in certain circumstances. However, with the right amount of faith, will and ambition, any and everything is possible.
Q: What made you decide to start a production company?
I started my production company because I was seeking one to support my brand as a TV Talk Show Host. I also had interest in developing new TV show ideas. So rather than wait on a company to validate me or my work, I decided 2016 would be the year I start my own brand. Chundria Stanback Studios is my platform to create new content and open up a myriad of opportunities for other talented people including hosts, actors, production crew, etc.
Q: What are things you would tell your younger self now that you are older and wiser?
I would tell my younger self to save more money and also invest it. I can just imagine what type of returns I could have now if I had invested my money 10 or 15 years ago. I would also tell my younger self to be mindful of credit use. Credit is an important component in business.
Q: Any business advice you can give to young women:
My best advice for women is keep emotions out of business. It’s so easy to get caught up in our feelings because we are naturally very sensitive sometimes. Remaining business-minded helps us avoid impulsive decisions and many setbacks as well. Also, I suggest young women create their own lanes and stop waiting around for opportunities. Remain mindful of your self-worth and don’t allow people take advantage of you.
Q: How about personal/life advice for young women
My advice would be live and enjoy the journey. It’s so easy to get caught up in the grind and the ambition. You hear people saying they won’t sleep or they won’t focus on anything else and that’s not living your best life. Health is important as well as spending time for yourself and with your loved ones. Tomorrow isn’t promised for anyone. So take time out to smell the roses today. Put your phone away sometimes. Connect with old friends and make new ones. Spend time with those you love the most. Travel. Sleep. Live. Love. Take a class. Learn something new. Life is to be lived. Don’t wait around to find what makes you happy. Be happy today.
Q: What can we expect to see in the next couple of months and years to come?
You can expect to see my production company flourish in the coming months and years. I’m currently producing 5 Television shows and in December I’m hosting a screening for family, friends and industry professionals to see highlights of my current projects and also get previews of new 2017 developments for the new year. In years to come, I look forward to continually building my brand and creating jobs for under-served minorities in the community-at-large.
