Welcome back to one of my favorite segments on my blog!!!! The Spotlight Segment is where I interview someone I know personally that inspires and motivates me in my daily journey.
For this week's segment, I had the pleasure of interviewing Melda Dupont. Social Media, when used correctly, can be a great place to meet tons of likeminded entrepreneurs such as Melda.
The reason why I wanted to shed light on Melda is because her drive pushes me to extend the expectations of others and not to give up on my goals and dreams.
Read Below and don't forget to comment and share. :)
-Where should I start? My name is Melda Dupont, I'm from Immokalee Florida. I Graduated in 2004 at Immokalee High School. I attended College at Edward Waters College and Graduated in 2008 from Jacksonville University. I have the most amazing kids. 2 Boys and a Beautiful Daughter. I've been in business since 2012, I opened my first store location in my hometown Immokalee. I started off by selling Luxury Hair and Clothing. I've been building my brand since 2004 but put out my first product in 2012, it took so long because I was scared of what people would think...
WHAT, ACCORDING TO YOU IS A FAVORITE PART OF BEING A FASHION DESIGNER?
-Ketia, I wouldn't consider myself as a fashion designer, I love fashion but not too good at putting it together. I consider my talent a Passion for Haiti Designer, if that makes any sense LoL... Don't judge me, I just know our people so much. I know what makes us happy and proud...
WHAT’S THE BIGGEST LESSON YOU’VE LEARNED, AND WOULD PASS ALONG TO OTHERS JUST GETTING STARTED IN YOUR FIELD?
-Biggest lesson I've learned while in business?? EVERYONE IS NOT FOR YOU!!!! You have all these people who want to do what you do, but they don't understand the effort and hard work that goes into it all. The sleepless nights, the stress, the frustration... Even dealing with our own people can be a headache but you got to love them. I always say you're destined to be who you are. It's not for everyone . You have to have a Passion. It has to be something that you want, and you have to be able to balance life.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OR NON-WORK-RELATED ACTIVITIES?
-My Hobbies- I love traveling, I'll go to Haiti 6x a year if I could LOL, just to visit different areas and eat different food... I'm obsessed with Haiti, Ketia you wouldn't understand (LoL)
I love spending time with my kids. My oldest son is 6'2 and he plays basketball so sometimes we'll go to the gym and play against each other, while the other kids snap mommy beating him, and I reply with a smile like: "Yup yup" lol. Besides that, I'm always home or at the store visualizing what's next for LuckyMelz...
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO CHOOSE FASHION DESIGN AS A CAREER?
-I'll say Being a Haiti Passion Designer "Lol" is considered a Hobby, and something I love. And being able to help others while doing it. Did I mention each shirt that is purchased I donate $2 to Shantale's Orphanage in Saint Marc Haiti? I'm sure many didn't even know this fact!! Just to see how people love your work and your product feels so good!!!!
THE DESIGNS YOU CREATE ARE AMAZING AND INNOVATIVE, WHO AND WHAT THINGS WERE YOUR INSPIRATION WHILE CREATING YOUR DESIGNS?
-While creating any design my main focus is on Haiti!!! I pay attention to the importance of Haiti's culture and try to bring it to life..
WHAT ARE SOME OTHER THINGS YOU HAVE GOING ON?
-Besides Haiti Pride Collection. I own 2 Clothing/Hair Stores: LuckyMelz Virgin Hair & Boutique. I keep myself busy. I'm working on my 2nd Annual Fashion Show for 2018 called "4 The Love Of Fashion" and a few other things I'll share later on down the line.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS?
-Depending on how many years you are talking about, Lol.. Somewhere in Haiti!!! I have so much planned for Haiti. I'm sure, I'll be stationed there in the next few years...
